Day #7 The Cat Lovers Christmas Challenge - Game #2

Hi guys, I'm loving all your comments and fabulous creations thus far - just keep 'em coming! It's great to see so many of Janis' Hoppers signing up for this challenge. If you spot anyone you know played in the Cat Lovers Hops, but who hasn't made it here yet why not give them a nudge in this direction?

I thought you all might enjoy this picture taken where I volunteer.

They really are the funniest little crew and already have noticeably different personalities. The one at the front is the fluffiest and the bravest, and the one who loves to climb your legs! I've called her 'Rebel' as she's definitely the troublemaker of the bunch. I dread to think how long the Christmas tree would survive with these little horrors!

It's time to play our second game of the Challenge and to dish the dirt on Your Cats Naughty Christmas antics or, as we like to call them here: Festive Felonies!

My sweet boy, Custard, was unnaturally good around the tree and the decorations. I remember one year my husband asked him if he was really a cat, or just some middle-aged guy in a furry suit! Both my girls, Cleo and Daisy, loved to take a bauble for the odd kick around and I seem to recall a few festive breakages during their tenure.

Please share any festive crazy kitty antics in the comments below. If you have video or photographic evidence why not share it on your blog (perhaps when you share a card for this challenge?) and link back to this post?

One RANDOM WINNER will be chosen from the commentors.

If you've just arrived you're joining the fun on Day #7 of The Cat Lovers Christmas Challenge. Please head here for the sign-in and the LINKY PARTY.

  1. I posted a short video of my cat Goose and how he was unable to drink from the water fountain. He was such a sweetie. https://suzphark.blogspot.com/2023/10/christmas-kickstart-cat-lovers.html

  2. Those rescue kittens are so sweet, Jo! I used to volunteer at a local animal shelter many moons ago, and I found it very rewarding. Heartbreaking at times, but I loved helping out with the kitties, changing their litter, cleaning out the cages, grooming them, and refreshing their food and water. My friend enjoyed dogs, so she took them for walks. I have very good memories of this time.

My naughty kitty story happened many years ago. I bought some Christmas gifts for Brian and a bag of cat food for his cat Snowie. I hid them in my upstairs closet in what I thought was a very secure place. Unbeknownst to me, while I was at work, Honeydew found the bag of cat food, tore into it and was having a grand old time. I suspected Kiwi was involved as well. I could tell by the mess I found later that Honeydew visited the scene of the crime repeatedly. In his excitement he also chewed on the book I bought for Brian. You can imagine my shock and dismay when I discovered that both of these gifts had been damaged. I ended up buying replacements of both. It was a funny story on Christmas morning, and Brian ended up keeping both books to remember the event. After that, I found a much better hiding place for cat food!

Looking forward to reading what other naughty kitties have done.

  3. My Siamese kitty, Coco, ruined our artificial pre-lit Christmas tree by climbing onto a lower branch. She was a pretty big girl, close to 10 pounds at that time, and the tree was never the same after we found her perched on one of the branches. I think we used the tree for another year or two after that, with one branch hanging awfully low, but it was finally retired and replaced. She never bothered the trees again! Now she settles for sleeping under the tree instead!

  4. My kitties both unusually behave around the Christmas tree other than curiously play a bit with the shiny baubles (they only broke one so far over the years). But one year I had the brilliant idea to buy them a toy with cat nip for Christmas and not only did they rip open that gift, they also tore through some other gifts so some were already parcially open on Christmas morning. Now I know better and won't be wrapping any catnip toys anymore :)

Also wanted to add, they are always soooo excited when the trees comes up because we have this fuzzy red and white tree skirt that they absoluely love to lay on. One year I thought I'd get a fancy silky tree skirt but then neither of the cats would go under it. Of course I ended up changing it back to the old one and that's all we use now. It's just so cute to see them both cuddled up under the Christmas tree :)

  5. All my cats have always considered the Christmas tree as a playground, just as it illustrates very well the meme that I copied from Janis blog on my blog. The tree (artificial, I don’t like to see the trees cut, and those in pots bought at the nursery are always dried up after Christmas!) has always been climbed by my kittens with the result of falling to the ground, with broken balls attached... The "fox tails" and the ribbons were pulled (and again the tree overturned), the balls rolled around the house to the furniture, the branches pulled with their legs and teeth, kicked with their hind legs as if they were prey... The more fun my cats have, the more damage! And having always had several cats at once, they played together multiplying and speeding up the catastrophe! I withstood disasters very little and abandoned the idea of decorating the tree many many years ago. Now I just make the crib, which is fortunately ignored!

  6. I made a mistake in my comment above, I had not checked the Translator who helps me (English is not my native language)
... "potted ones bought at the nursery are always dead after Christmas!" and not "annoyed me" :D LOL

  7. My son just adopted a kitty named Blizzard. This will be his first Christmas with us. He is well behaved, but curious and loves to check things out. So thanks for the heads up. This year we may keep some of the breakable decorations in the box just to see how he does. Safer for Blizzard and the decorations.

  8. Our semi-adoptive kitty, Anna Banana (really our next door neighbors cat, but she spent more time at our house than theirs!) was really such a great kitty! She never did anything bad. She'd swat at you if she didn't want to do something, but never actually scratched or bit us. She was an outdoor cat, but we'd let her in our house once in awhile. She never scratched the furniture. She simply explored or sat in hubby's recliner to chill out. We miss her so much!

  9. The kitty from my friend, will come for thanksgiving when we are carving the turkey and then hiss at us. LOL!!!

  10. Minnie is our Festive Naughty One! Only having her for two years, she had seen nothing like a Christmas tree or decorations before, after her poor barn community living, so it was like a wonderland playground for her. We forget she is an adult cat because she is so small. First, she started on my brand new cushion with little bells on it. Then she went for the decorations! (it was quite like a frenzy!) Then moved onto the Christmas tree while I was trying to decorate it, but had to scoot her out as those falling pine needles on the floor... weeeeell, she attempted to eat them! Fake stiff, sharp needles! Luckily we shut the double glass doors to keep her out, but she KNEW that tree was in there! I have no doubt she would have ridden that tree to the ground if given the opportunity! She did get some joy time, just had to be supervised!

  11. I'll try to find a photo of my sweet pair of orange kitties (gone since late 2000s) who loved to nap under my Christmas tree. Mom's friend Vera made me a crocheted tree skirt and the second it went down, under the tree my kitties went for a snooze!

  12. I can't show this photo to my son, I think he would adopt them all straight away!!!!
Our first two cats were named Leonardo and Lisa and they were both very interested in the Christmas tree. In the first year we were away for a few days and our neighbor looked after them both. When we got home, all the tree decorations had been removed. We were amazed. Our neighbor then told us that she had to do this because the two of them kept knocking over the Christmas tree and some of the balls were broken. Since then we have always tied the tree down.

  14. My dearly departed kitties were all angels - ha!
They didn't climb the Christmas tree, but took great pleasure in knocking the baubles off and having a game of ice hockey as they skidded around our living room. Indie, our adventurer cat, used to enjoy 'going missing' on Christmas Eve. Seriously, it became a regular event, so much so that we didn't like to let him out as we feared he wouldn't come back until the early hours. He always found a way, though - open a door or a window and, quick as a flash, he was gone! My hubby reckons he liked parties and watched through windows until the last of the guests went home. There's been many a Christmas Eve when we've wandered around our estate, sometimes in PJs, looking and calling for him.

  15. We rescue and our current count is 13. We've had as many as 21 in our feline tribe and it's been several years since we've put up a Christmas tree because of all the missing/broken ornaments we've found in various places after the holidays! Have to admit that they are just having fun! ;) We've talked about putting up a tree just for the cats with cat-proof ornaments! We think we're going to do that this year! ;)

  16. Certain people in our house are not keen on Christmas decorations so we don't put a tree up in the house, but I imagine if I did our cat would try to climb it. She is polydactyl with extra claws and thumbs and is never happy until she is as high as she can go. I am sure she has lost lives after some of her high flying antics, usually due to her dubious descent techniques. Hugz

  17. One of our kitties just loved to sleep in the tree. Not under it on the nice comfy tree skirt, but actually in the tree on top of one of the branches. I will look for a photo.
One year, another kitty came running into our family with a piece of garland in his mouth. The other end was still connected to the tree. He just grabbed one end and took off, spinning the tree and unraveling the garland!
Thanks for jogging my memory in this fun challenge.

  18. My first kitty as an adult, Mr. Kitty tore my artificial Christmas tree apart three times. It look like someone pulled each branch out and slung it across the room. After the third time, I took it down. After that, if I had a tree, it was a small one. I bet he had a fun time tearing that tree apart! :)

  20. My first cat, back when we had live Christmas trees, loved to climb the tree and ended up toppling it over one time, so from then on, we had to tie the tree to a hook in the ceiling. Two Christmas ago, we had three young kittens and they all were determined to climb our artificial tree! My old man (15) loves to just lay on the tree skirt under the tree. And of course, with all the cats, we were always finding an ornament or two off every morning when we come out. This year, we just got 4 baby kittens and I can only imagine the mayhem they will be causing with a Christmas tree!
